Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has accused Russia of artificial aggravation of the language issue in Ukraine.

“Over the past several months we have been witnessing Russia’s attempts to artificially aggravate the language issue in our country,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

 Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko said Wednesday she supports all the appointments made by President Viktor Yushchenko.

She said it at a news conference when she was asked to comment on the appointment of Raissa Bogatyryova, one of the leaders of the opposition Regions Party to the post of Security Council Secretary.

 Ukraine does not see itself as a neighbour of Europe, Foreign Minister Vladimir Ogryzko said on Friday.

“We are not neighbours. We are a part of Europe. We see our future as European and not as that of neighbours,” he told a meeting with diplomatic corps representatives in Ukraine.

 Ukrainian Foreign Policy Program
    
 
The Ukrainian Foreign Policy Program is the primary source of information, analysis, and commentary on Ukrainian foreign policy for politicians, diplomats, foreign affairs analysts, international business, economists, the military, journalists, academics, and the informed public. The UFPP analyzes the costs and benefits of Ukraine's actions on the international arena. By combining research, publications, conferences, and expert networks, it seeks to tackle critical foreign policy problems facing the nation and offer effective solutions to the emerging challenges and risks.


Policy Recommendation Initiative


The primary mission of CIRS's Policy Recommendation Initiative is to assist the Ukrainian government with developing a more efficient and coherent foreign policy. Being a natural extension of the Center’s research and analysis, the Initiative complements CIRS's efforts in making policy impact in the fields of international relations, regional and global security, and Ukrainian foreign policy.

The main product of the Initiative is a set of policy memos that are regularly produced and delivered to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine, the Parliament, and the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

This report is based on material from the conference ‘European Security: Comparing Experiences from the Baltic Sea and Black Sea Regions, which was organised by the Swedish-Ukrainian Security Forum in Kyiv April 2007.

The Swedish-Ukrainian Security Forum is a joint cooperation network led by the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOl) and the Center for International Studies (CIRS), which activities have been sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Sweden.

The report discusses these two regions’ security along three different aspects: Regional Security, energy security and Euro-Atlantic integration. Structurally, the report covers both theoretical and practical aspects of regional security laying conceptual foundations and providing some real life applications.
 Swedish-Ukrainian Security Forum
    
 Image courtesy – FOI In April 2007, the Swedish-Ukrainian Security Forum is preparing for a bigger conference under the theme “European Security: Comparing experiences from the Baltic Sea and Black Sea Regions”. This event will be held in Kyiv and will mark the culmination of the project in its current form.

The Swedish-Ukrainian Security Forum, conducted since 2005, is a joint Swedish-Ukrainian research project. Its purpose is to serve as a bilateral forum for researchers representing different fields of security policy studies, where ideas and views on different security problems can be exchanged. The participants represent a wide spectrum of fields of research as well as institutional affiliations.
